Description:

• liaison between insurance carriers and Patient Access. Performs weekly checks of each insurance carrier and advises the Director of Patient Access about updates, issues, and concerns
• Verifies insurance eligibility, benefits, pre-certifications, prior authorizations, and referrals requirements for scheduled outpatient services via telephone and/or insurance websites
• Obtains patient information to facilitate the verification of the unique patient identifiers for clinical purposes, the billing and collections process, and compliance with state and federal regulator requirements.
• Evaluates eligibility for alternate sources of financing care and refers to appropriate agency where possible.
• Obtains any required pre-certifications, prior authorizations, and referrals from insurance companies, primary care physicians, and families.
• Estimates self-pay portions after benefits have been determined (e.g., deductibles, co-pays, non-covered services, etc.).

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required.
2 years related experience in a benefits/referral coordinator/insurance verification/authorization job in healthcare setting required.
MUST HAVE EPIC as they will be pulling data from EPIC (companies that use it: Hopkins, UMMS, Mercy, UMFPI)
Must be familiar with all payors and payor portals
Must have STRONG Computer skills
Must be organized as they will be supporting the director
